Hi everyone, I'm Johanna, a white qualitative psychologist based in Bristol. I run a proof-reading and feedback service which is geared towards supporting qualitative students. We support quite a few people who have dsylexia or who don't have English as a first language. Sarah has invited me to be a part of this group - I'm looking forward to connecting with you all.
Hi everyone! I'm Dr Melody Smith, a black British Clinical Psychologist practicing in London.
I qualified in 2019- not very long ago. Despite my training cohort being full of well intentioned people, as a black trainee I always felt a bit.... well... different to most of my cohort. This caused me a considerable amount of pain.
Now, we can reframe all we like. I grew through it. It made me stronger. It tested me and I came out the other end intact.
BUT how lovely would it have been to be able to bypass THAT turmoil.
Or to have had more support.
There is strength in numbers, which is why I was so grateful for the few other trainees that understood a bit better my cultural experience while on training. Family, friends. The Black And Asian Therapy Network (BAATN). And why I am so passionate about supporting good candidates from ethnic minority groups to get onto training.
Looking forward to seeing this supportive space grow.
Dr Melody Smith
